Show on Friday!

So I am having my first solo-ish show this Friday! I say solo-ish because there is a small permanent collection of work, but three of my big pieces are being featured! If you remember this gem: http://mariaeileenduke.blogspot.com/2009/05/pre-memory.html, it is probably the largest one in the space. It kind of takes up the whole middle section. They are really light hair and tulle embroidery concoctions so they don't show up too well photographically. BUT here are three pictures and you can see them floating around here and there. SO YEAH FRIDAY, March 2, 2012, 915 Layfayette St. 7 pm.

Charcoal and graphite on BFK, 22x30

#3

OK. This is my third of this current series which I have decided to name "States of Unrest". The individual pieces don't have names. This one seems to be one part aggression, one part yawn, one part blow-up doll. Any feedback is appreciated! Woo! Party on. Make it big! 14x24, charcoal on BFK.

It also has to do with the nature of romantic relationships in that sometimes it is uncomfortable or feels un-powerful to admit how much power someone(a man) might have over you (or me) and I feel creating such a historically female piece about this phenomenon allows one to take a little power back. I am also very drawn to the relationship of the body to the things that bodies interact with or within and the relationship between those things. For me blankets have become a type of architecture, and beds are a very intimate type of architecture, in concept and in practice. Quilt (I need a better name for this) 65...
